Ken Moores - Gettin' Old Video

All good art is rooted in the past. Like building a pyramid on Muscle Beach, everyone stands on someone else’s shoulders taking the whole structure to new heights. This maxim holds true for all art, from Picasso to Clapton, if you can’t see where you’ve been you’ll have a hard time figuring out where you’re going. My heroes include the Rolling Stones –who recorded their first records at Chess Records in Chicago because they realized they needed to connect with the ‘real thang’. Muddy Waters even helped them hump their gear into the studio! Eric Clapton consistently fought the allure of commercialism to remain true to his blues roots.

I’m not trying to put myself in that exclusive club, but I do wish to pay homage to my early influences. My first band changed its name from the Basement Boys to the Basement Blues Band more than 40 years ago because we understood the importance of what the Stones were saying to us through their music.

For all these reasons I chose Rollin’ and Tumblin’ as a starting point for our new venture, Heaven and Earth. We are such a young band we really have no idea what we will evolve into. But one thing is clear, we share a great respect for blues artists which are both mentors and an incredible inspiration to several musical forms including Rock and Roll, Soul, Pop, R and B and even Country.

I was under the impression that Rollin’ and Tumblin’ was written by either Muddy Waters or Elmore James as a close second but what the hell do I know? Wikipedia has enlightened me on the true origins. Check it out. Keep the musical chain alive! Ken Moores
